The latest innovative approaches to the diagnosis, therapy, and prevention of cardiovascular disease will take center stage at an upcoming international scientific symposium to be held in Boryspil, Ukraine. Organized by the Scientific Oncological and Cardiological Production Center "Max-Well" -- the main Ukrainian subsidiary of US-based MaxWell Biocorporation, LLC -- the symposium will bring leading American, Ukrainian, and European researchers together on October 24, 2008 at the spacious new Max-Well pharmaceutical fill-and-finish facility in Boryspil.

Papers to be presented at the symposium will offer novel research into heretofore little-understood links between latent and persistent infectious agents (such as viruses and bacteria) and cardiovascular disease, and will discuss promising implications for its prevention and treatment offered by advanced biopharmaceuticals such as interferon and human growth hormone.

Speakers will represent cutting-edge medical research institutions from Ukraine, the United States, and Western Europe, including the Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, the Amosov Institute (Ukraine), the Strazhesko Institute (Ukraine), the Mechnikov Institute (Ukraine), the George Washington University (USA), the University of West Virginia (USA), the Georgetown University School of Medicine (USA), the National Institutes of Health (USA), the Washington Hospital Center (USA), Champagne-Ardenne University (France), and others.

Dr. Stephen Epstein, Executive Director of the Cardiovascular Research Institute and Director of Vascular Biology Research at the MedStar Research Institute at Washington Hospital Center, and also Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Georgetown University School of Medicine, will give the keynote speech at the symposium. Dr. Epstein previously served for over 30 years as Chief of the Cardiology Branch at the National Heart, Lungs, and Blood Institute at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Epstein is an internationally recognized authority in the field, with over 500 publications in peer-reviewed medical journals. His current research interests focus on understanding and treating cardiovascular disease at the molecular level.

Ukraine is a logical location for this event: cardiovascular diseases and disorders are the leading cause of mortality in Ukraine today, and are responsible for the largest share of all annual deaths there, many of them preventable.

Improving early detection, prevention, and treatment of cardiovascular disease is a key healthcare challenge for independent Ukraine. MaxWell Biocorporation is proud to contribute to this important goal.
